The Annoying Orange is a series of YouTube videos created created by Gagfilms. The series main character is described by Wikitubia as “n extremely dim-witted and annoying young orange known as The Annoying Orange who enjoys doing tricks and telling jokes to his friends.” He also has a VERY annoying laugh. The first Annoying Orange episode was posted in October 2009, and the fourth installment, The Annoying Orange 4: Sandy Claus came out shortly before Christmas 2009.

If you’re not familiar with Elf Yourself (where have YOU been?), you can upload up to five images and turn them into dancing elves. The original site offered only one dance. Last year they added three more, but the quality was very poor – the images were overexposed and blurry. But I’m happy to report that this year’s additions are high quality. The Magical Growing Christmas Tree isn’t particularly funny, but the video advertising it is so ridiculous it is funny. Somehow I can’t really imagine Mr. Hates Christmas being transformed from his “Bah, humbug!” personality to a Christmas lover just by the sight of a 6-inch tall magic tree that “transforms itself from a piece of cardboard into a full and bushy miniature tree in just six hours.” But, hey, if Santa can fly in a sleigh pulled by reindeer, I’ll believe this guy turns into a Christmas tree hugger in just a few hours. After all, Christmas is all about the spirit, right?

Crazy Frog is a computer animated character originally known as The Annoying Thing and created by Erik Wernquist. But apparently he’s not so annoying. The Crazy Frog ringtone in the UK is the most commercially successful ringtone of all time, and Crazy Frog had a worldwide hit single with a remix of “Axel F.” There is also a range of Crazy Frog merchandise, toys, and video games. And, of course, YouTube videos. You can’t be successful these days without a YouTube video. The video below shows Crazy Frog in action to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas – Song Lyrics and Video

This funny Christmas song was written by John Rox and sung by 10-year-old Gayla Peevey. What’s particularly amusing about the “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” song is that the the singer actually DID receive a hippopotamus for Christmas. When the song was released in 1953, it became an instant hit. Wikipedia then says, “a local promoter picked up on the popularity of the song and Peevey’s local roots, and launched a campaign to present her with an actual hippopotamus on Christmas. The campaign succeeded, and she was presented with an actual hippopotamus,” which she donated to the zoo in Oklahoma City. The hippopotamus, named Matilda, lived for nearly 50 years.

Gayla, meanwhile, went on to record other children’s songs for Columbia, such as “Got A Cold In The Node For Christmas” and “Angel in the Christmas Play”. She also recorded a duet with Columbia’s other child singer Jimmy Boyd (who had the hit recording of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus”), entitled “I’m So Glad”, and “Kitty in a Basket”. Later she earned a teaching degree from San Diego State University and then left teaching for a career in advertising.

“I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” inspired a book by the same title and it has been recorded by various artists, including the Captain and Tennille and Dr. Demento. There’s even a video on YouTube showing the Jonas Brothers singing “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.”
